©Finnur Thorgeirsson in the Westman Islands, Iceland, during the June 17 earthquake
in the year 2000. The quakes magnitude was an impressive 6.5 on the Richter
scale. I felt the ground go up and down but the only thing I could think of
was to take my Nikon FE (Film) camera with a Nikkor 28 mm lens and try to
capture the moment. The wide angle lens makes it look like I am far away
from the hills, but I am actually very close. The valley was full of people
celebrating the national day but they all started to run away from the
stones coming down the hills. The battery in the camera was dead, i had to
swich over to a fixed shutter speed (1/90 sec) and choose what I thought
would be a fitting aperture.
